I Met You Once is a new culture of social networking designed with the best intentions to unite people who, for varying reasons, met only briefly without the opportunity to develop that brief meeting into a friendship. I Met You Once provides a means for such people who may mutually wish to find each other and develop or explore the friendship potentials of that brief meeting.
Like any social networking site, we need to collect user data. Your privacy is very important to us and we are serious about protecting your personally identifiable information. In the privacy policy outlined below we explain how we collect and use data.
Also, on I Met You Once there may be occassions when you publish information about a meeting between yourself and the stranger you are hoping to find. We will offer guidance about how you must handle such information to keep in line with our terms of service.

Our Collection of Your Information:
(i) Data that you submit
When you register I Met You Once collects personally identifiable information including your full name and email address. This information is necessary for registration purposes. Your name is not displayed publicly on the I Met You Once site. Your email address remains invisible to other users too. I Met You Once will not pass your email address onto third parties. I Met You Once does not spam.
I Met You Once also collects your date of birth, which is non personally identifiable information. I Met You Once cannot register you without this information, as you need to prove that you are above 18 to use the site.
You will also submit a username and password. Your password is encrypted and completely invisible to I Met You Once staff. (If you lose your password, we will generate a new one for you.)
All other information that you provide on the site and in your profile is totally voluntary.
(ii) Data collected automatically
a) Cookies and web beacons: When you enter I Met You Once we use cookies to store certain information. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer. I Met You Once uses session ID cookies to verify that users are logged in. These cookies terminate once the browser has been closed. We use a cookie that stores your user login to make it easier for you to login when you come back to I Met You Once. Your cookie settings can be adjusted to restrict this cookie in your browser settings.
Advertising partners and other third parties may also use cookies, scripts and/or web beacons to track visitors to our site in order to display advertisements and other useful information. Such tracking is done directly by the third parties through their own servers and is subject to their own privacy policies.

Our Use of Your Information:
Your username will be displayed on your profile and on the ads you create. (Please note that if your username is the same as - or similar to - your real name, then you take full responsibility for your choice of username and you are hereby asserting that youare agreeable for yourusername/realname to be displayed publicly on the site and will bear all consequences of such use.)
Your personally identifiable information will not be submitted by us to any third-parties.
Your email address will not be passed on to any third-parties. I Met You Once is vehemently opposed to spam. We may send you a useful newsletter every once in a while to keep you up-to-date with our services. If you decide you do not wish to receive our newsletter at any point you are free to unscubscribe.
We may use data such as your date of birth and other non personally-identifiable information for statistical analyses only, where your data will remain anonymous. This data will be statistically analysed to help us improve our services.
Access to your account will be limited to authorised I Met You Once staff. Occassionally I Met You Once staff will need to view user's accounts in the course of the duties. For example, we may periodically and randomly check user's accounts to verify conformity to our terms of service and our privacy policy.
We may reveal your personally identifiable information to a legal authority if required by law.
We reserve the right to transfer your information in the event of I Met You Once transferring ownership. We will notify you via email if the privacy policy is due to change if ever I Met You Once transfers ownership.
Your Use of Your Own Information:
You are responsible for all other data that you voluntarily supply on I Met You Once. The data you may voluntarily enter into I Met You Once includes, but is not limited to, your favourite films and TV, your zodiac signs, hobbies, affiliations etc. Some of this data may be publicly available. You enter it at your sole discretion.
In your profile space you have the option of entering delivery address details. Entering your delivery address details to the "My Gift Address" tab in your profile enables I Met You Once to deliver gifts to you that another user may wish to send to you. When entered into the "My Gift Address" tab, your delivery address details will only be visible to yourself and to I Met You Once. Your address, should you choose to enter it, will not be visible to other users.
When you voluntarily post information on the website, this information is accessible to the public who may use this information to send you unsolicited communications. We advise you to consider carefully the information that you provide on the site. I Met You Once does not permit you to publicise your email address (or anyone else's email address) anywhere on the website so as to minimise the threat of spamming. Publishing your email address on your webstie will be a breach of our terms of service.

To minimise the chances of your account being hijacked, you are not permitted to disclose your password to anyone else. I Met You Once takes password security very seriously and encrypts all passwords. However, you accept that it is impossible for I Met You Once to guarantee unbreachable security. That is, we cannot control any illegal or unforeseen attempts to manipulate the security of the website. As a result, you accept there may be circumstances in which your information is accessed by unauthorised persons.

Your Use of Other People's Information:
Members have the option to upload "Member Advertisements" describing a meeting they had with another person in order to faciliate a reunion. A member advertisement gives you the opportunity to advertise the fact that you are looking for someone you once met. In this advertisement you can describe the person and your meeting with them.
Although you are unlikely to know the personally identifiable information of the person you are looking for (presumably you only met them briefly once or twice), we still need to make it absolutely clear that you must never publish anyone else's personally identifiable information in your advertisement (or anywhere else on our site).
Personally identifiable information includes, but is not limited to, full name, family name, residential address, work address, email address, SKYPE address, messenger address, passwords, password reminders, telephone numbers, mobile/cellphone numbers, fax numbers etc. If you are found publishing another person's personally identifiable information you will be violating our privay policy and will have your I Met You Once account terminated without notice.
If you are contacted by the subject of your advertisement and asked to remove your ad, you agree to do so.
Further to our terms of service (with special reference to sections 5 & 6), you expressly agree that you are fully and solely responsible for any consequences for details that you publish about another person.
Objections to Advertisements About You
If you are the subject of a member advertisement and you do not wish to be, please report to us. You can request the offending advertisement to be removed on two grounds:
(i) If the advertisement violates our terms of service and/or privacy policy, then email us and select the 'report abuse' option. Upon receipt of your email, we will determine whether or terms of service and/or privacy policy have been violated and, if so, remove the offending ad and take any other necessary actions. We will then notify you of the actions we have taken.
(ii) If the advertisement does not violate our terms of service and/or privacy policy, but you still wish for the removal of an advertisement about yourself, then please email us and select the 'request ad removal' option. We will then ask you to fax us proof of your identity. If you successfully prove your identity, we will remove the offending ad. You will subsequently be notified of its removal.
